Greenwich Destination for Cycling Mappers

MapAction volunteers and supporters cycled from the Paris Observatory to its counterpart in Greenwich to raise money for the charity’s work. The nineteen riders made it for their team photo on the prime meridian in Greenwich Park on the hottest day of the year so far.
MapAction is the London Mapping Festival’s chosen charity. Its teams work at the front line in disasters and other humanitarian crises, gathering information and producing situation maps that help aid workers to target their resources on those most in need.
The Paris-London ride has raised more than £2,500 so far in donations. Supporters can give online at www.mapaction.org and the charity says that donations of all sizes are greatly welcomed.

The complete set of posters comprising around 30 in all, is available for LMF supporters to borrow for their own events or public display. The Society of Cartographers and Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors are the first to take advantage of this opportunity.

It is the society’s main conference which is open to members and non-members. It includes lectures, exhibitions, seminars and workshops dedicated to mapmaking.
Next year, however, the conference will be hosted a little closer to home at UCL.
